- Facebook contest application flow: app auth, contest submission with contact information, invite FB friends, share to social, voting module.
- Video editing web app with video and audio library, trimming, video effects (posterize, grayscale, negative), video transitions (fade, to/from black, slide), soundtrack overlay.
- APIs leveraging FFmpeg for video and audio sequencing and mixing.
- Backoffice to view the user submissions and votes.
Concept
For the 20 year anniversary of the iconic Sonic video and the release of their latest installment, Sonic Generations, SEGA and the French video games centric TV channel Game One partnered to offer a never been seen before type of contest: one where anybody could easily create their own video clip online without needing editing software or experience!
Fans would create a 1 minute clip using videos and soundtracks from their favorite Sonic video games. Once they were done with trimming, adding optional video effects & transitions, and picking their favorite Sonic soundtrack, they would generate a final version of their clip to submit as an entry for the contest. The video clip was available for them to download and sharing on social media to help getting people voting for it and to encourage them to participate in the contest themselves. Selected participants' video clips were even used as TV and Facebook advertisements.
A submitted game clipThe contest was judged by SEGA et de GAME ONE, based on the number of votes received and creativity. Prizes:
- 1st place: a life sized Sonic Generations statue worth $3,500 (limited edition, 1 of 20 worldwide), and a Playstation 3 console!
- 2nd place: a Collectors Edition of the Sonic Generations game for PS3
- 3rd to 7th place: a Sonic Generations game for PS3
- 8rd to 37th place: a collector Sonic hat
